Willowbrook Food Pantry Update 7/3/25

Hi Friends,

There is a program starting up that facilitates qualifying families with children in Doernbecher hospital getting food pantry food delivered to them.  We are joining the program and glad to help these families going through tough times.  I have been very blessed that my children and grandchildren have never had a serious illness.  A big Thank You to the volunteer who is willing to take this project on.

Part of our offerings from the Oregon Food Bank is a USDA shopping list.  It is free food to us.  In the past, it typically contained about 30 items.  Last week it contained 8 items, one of which is collard greens, which are not popular with our clientele.  We will be needing to find more food or give out less, or most likely, both.  We really appreciate and rely on your support.

In June, we helped 172 families, 796 people.  This is less than the preceding month.  It would be nice to think that less people need food, but I think it is more likely that some people are afraid to come.  We had our biggest year in 2024. We helped over 10,500 people, up from 8500 in 2023. We really appreciate your support.

We appreciate the people who continually drop off the plastic bags.  It means a lot to us that you take the time to do this. Thank you.  We have been informed that we cannot repack eggs.  So we no longer need egg cartons.

We are very low on peanut butter, cereals, and tuna.  If you can donate a couple, that would really help us.  In some stores, you have to buy 4 or 5 items to get the good price, which is sometimes cheaper than buying 2.  We would appreciate the extras.

We are very thankful for the Sherwood Target store.  They donate to us every week.  They donate over 5000 lbs of food most months, and a lot of our meat comes from them.

There is a $10 off  $50 Safeway digital coupon this week.  I often don't spend $50.  But I do spend $35 or $40.  So I buy food that the food pantry needs so my total comes up to $50 and I can use the coupon.  This way I can, for example, spend $38 for myself and donate $12 worth of food for $2.  That's a good deal!!   If you don't want to do the arithmetic, you can put an item in your cart and, at checkout, just tell the checker you want to buy the number you need to be eligible for the coupon.

The items that I think are of greatest value to us from each store (when there is a clear standout) are highlighted with bold text.  Also, some prices of items not advertised may be out of date.

We are lowest on Peanut Butter, Tuna, Soups, Cereals, Pasta Sauce, Rice-a-roni, Crackers, canned Corn, Sugar, Juice.

Fred Meyers Community Rewards program allows you to specify a charity to give funds to.. To register, go to www.fredmeyer.com/communityrewards. If you want to give rewards to us, our number for the program is FJ766 .  We would appreciate it if you would sign up to give rewards to us.  This program does not diminish your personal rewards.
