Why Tithing Matters
Tithing is less about the money and more about trust. It’s a spiritual practice that says, “God, I trust You more than I trust my income.” When we give, we’re choosing to place God first in our priorities, our decisions, and our resources.
At Sherwood Community Friends Church, generosity isn’t just a line item. It’s a way of life. When we give, we participate in the work God is doing right here in Sherwood and throughout the world. Every dollar becomes ministry: feeding families, discipling children and students, supporting missions, caring for our neighbors, creating spaces of worship, and helping people discover the hope of Jesus.
Tithing also forms us spiritually. It quiets fear, loosens our grip on control, and invites us to live with open hands. It reminds us that everything we have is a gift from God and that He is faithful to provide.
Scripture invites us into this kind of life-giving generosity:
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing.” Proverbs 3:9–10
